Otmaro Ruiz
In 1989, after performing and touring extensively with ALL major Pop venezuelan artists (among them: Guillermo Davila, Frank Quintero, Soledad Bravo, El Trabuco Venezolano, Yordano, Ilan Chester), he moved from Caracas to Los Angeles, where he earned a Masters Degree in Jazz Performance at CalArts. His subsequent association with percussionist Alex Acuna rapidly introduced him to the inner circle of internationally acclaimed musicians, including world tours & recordings with John McLaughlin, "Jing Chi" with Robben Ford, Jimmy Haslip & Vinnie Colaiuta, Hubert Laws, Arturo Sandoval, Tito Puente, Billy Higgins, Paquito D'Rivera, Dave Weckl, Gino Vanelli, Steve Winwood, Frank Gambale, and Dianne Reeves. In 2000, Otmaro was awarded a Grammy certificate for his participation on Dianne Reeve's "In The Moment - Live in Concert", and collaborated as co-writter / performer in Alex Acu?a's Grammy nominated release "Acuarela de Tambores" in that same year. His work as a composer for the "Weston Woods Studios" childrenrelease "Chato and The Party Animals" has been nominated for the "2004 Audie Awards". Currently, Otmaro has 3 albums as a leader; performs with his own jazz trio, teaches privately, conducts Jazz Piano seminars around the world, and still finds time for performing and recording with major Jazz, Latin and Pop artists in the Los Angeles Area as well as worldwide.
