Steve Levine

Steve knew from an early age that he wanted to be involved in music. Starting out as a DJ (while still in sixth form) after leaving school he worked at CBS studios as a trainee tape op under the eye of esteemed classical engineer Mike Ross. From there he moved on to working with & engineering for many punk bands of the day such as The Clash, The Jags and The Drones as well as pop acts such as Sailor. At the time CBS studios had one of the first MCI recording consoles, this being an American console, attracted lots of producers from America one of them was Bruce Johnson from The Beach Boys.

I really love both the Scarbee C.E.P and E.E.P. and use them often in my productions. I know from personal experience, working on my own sample libraries, how much care and attention to detail Scarbee put into their sample libraries.
He was to play an important part in Steve's early career, culminating with Steve producing an album for the Beach Boys several years later. Frustrated as an engineer, and encouraged by Bruce Johnson, Steve began writing and producing his own tracks. Securing a publishing deal with Rondor, he purchased one of the very first Linn drum machines with the advance. At the time, Steve was recording with The Angelic Upstarts whose manager, Tony Gordon, had been approached by a new band called Culture Club. Steve hooked up with the band and recorded some tracks. Virgin picked the band up and the rest as they say is history.

Culture Club have gone on to sell over 20 million records and 'Karma Chameleon' still remains one of Virgin's biggest ever selling singles.

Since then Steve has worked with a wide spectrum of artists and composed a number of film scores. Artists he has worked with include The Beach Boys, Deniece Williams, China Crisis, Ziggy Marley, Louise, The Creatures, David Grant, Quarterflash, Westworld and 911. He also produced the Honeyz album "Wonder No 8" including the hit singles 'Finally Found' and 'End of the Line' and a new artist called Alsou this was Russia's entrant to Eurovision 2000.

These instruments must be the "benchmark" for other sample libraries - I can't believe you can get any closer to the authentic instrument sound without actually owning those instruments yourself .
But owning the original instruments means YOU have the problem & cost of maintenance, which ultimately costs more that the Scarbee library itself!!!!!!

Steve has recently worked with Mis-Teeq. Athough not noted for being a football fan he also produced a 2002 version of Turning Japanese (The Vapours) to coincide with the World Cup in June. He has recently produced Dutch R&B vocal act Voices in Motion. Steve has also been working with many new bands & artists. One such band, Owen were featured on BBC's "Live & Kicking" a single and album released mid June. Steve not only produced the album, but with the ever changing needs of new artists he has directed & edited 2 videos for Owen . Also having just completed an album for another new artist Jo Stevens scheduled for release later this year. Currently working on a great new pop act - a boy girl duo named simply Boy/Girl. Steve is currently producing a new act called Little Menace.

Steve has won a number of awards including BPI Producer of the Year, Musicweek Top Singles Producer and a Grammy for his work with Deniece Williams. His album with The Kings Singers was nominated for a 1999 Grammy for best classical crossover album.

Steve has been asked to be a guest speaker at various pro-audio special events/ seminars for the launch of new products for companies such as Yamaha, Tascam, Apple Macintosh & Apogee and has an excellent professional relationship with all of them.

During all of this he found time to appear on two episodes of BBC TV's 'Get Your Act Together' presented by Ronan Keating and guest appearance on the panel of "Star For A Night". Always among the first with leading edge technology.

Steve has also presented a couple of Technology shows for Sky TV.

In order to meet the needs of current bands and artists and their demands along with the tight budgets, Steve has developed a sophisticated recording environment which caters exactly for those needs.
